EDUCATION

After completing my degree in Psychology (2002, 1st Class), I obtained my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Newcastle University (2009, distinction.) This gave me broad clinical training with a range of therapeutic models, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Psychodynamic therapy, and Systemic therapy. My doctoral training also allowed me to work with a variety of client groups across the lifespan.

After this, I completed a PG Cert in adult learning at Northumberland University (2017, distinction,) a qualification that solidified my teaching skills and supported me to teach on IAPT courses at Newcastle University. I also have extensive experience supervising and teaching other psychologists and allied health professionals, and I have been a supervisor for doctoral research at Newcastle University.

I have my advanced certificate in Compassion Focused Therapy, and level 4 training in EMDR with the EMDR Academy. On top of these main therapeutic frameworks, I have recently undertaken courses in Mindfulness, Polyvagal theory, Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and specialist trauma support, ensuring that my Continued Professional Development and therapy skills remain up to date.

EXPERIENCE

Over the past twenty years, I have worked with a range of client groups, both within the NHS and Private Practice. I have experience working across the lifespan with a range of emotional difficulties, including depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, attachment difficulties, grief, trauma and complex trauma. I am neuroaffirmative, with personal experience of neurodiversity, and experience of working with neurodivergent individuals. After suffering with Long Covid/ME/chronic Lyme's, it has been my privilege to also support people with chronic illness.

On top of regularly developing my therapy skills, I am part of working groups for the British Psychological Society, and I receive regular supervision to ensure I am delivering the most helpful care for you. As well as being a committed therapist, I am a mother to three children, and I strive to find joy in the little things - a hot cup of coffee first thing, music, nature, and a good TV show.

When setting up my private practice, I chose the rowan tree, not just because there are several growing outside my house, but because it is the tree of life in Celtic mythology, with deep reaching roots, the ability to adapt to all seasons, and the embodiment of healing, growth and protection.
